Denver based architecture firm, OZ Architecture is selected by the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science to create the master plan for redesigning McMurdo Station, located in Antarctica.

McMurdo was never intended as a permanent residence, resulting in a lot of inefficiencies like buildings being too spread out and inefficiently using energy.

“Just to carry out the basics of camp life, like making food, requires schlepping to a warehouse and back to the production facility. In the new design, there are interior routes to key locations, although there are also ways to pop outside to escape the relentlessness of confinement.”
