“For really tough rust build-up, you may need something more powerful than what’s in your pantry or the cleaning aisle. Many commercial rust removers do the job much faster, too.
CLR: Soak your showerhead or bathroom fixture in a 50-50 mix of water and CLR, which stands for calcium, lime, and rust. Leave the fixture in the CLR for just two minutes, then rinse. You can also dip a toothbrush in CLR and scrub away stubborn spots. CLR can react with other cleaning products, so be careful you don’t mix or use it around bleach or other cleansers.”
