“More than a decade ago, it became clear that Urban Peak’s shelter could no longer meet the growing needs of the youth we serve and our community as a whole. It was aging, overcrowded, and lacked space for critical support services necessary to truly break the cycle of homelessness. After a comprehensive research study, a rezoning, hundreds of design iterations and thousands of meetings with stakeholders—including, most importantly, youth—we learned our system lacked an essential step between congregate shelter and independent housing. We set out to create The Mothership to bridge that gap.”
